The past year was a big year for me, I learnt a lot about myself and grew stronger through challenges and painful times. I lost a friend from work and my dog which was a terrible and painful time for me. I quit a job I felt unsatisfied and unfulfilled in and applied for Raleigh. I travelled to 4 countries, went on holiday to Berlin with my friend, went to NYC and then spent over three months in Costa Rica and Nicaragua working for a charity as a photographer. I met the most amazing, inspiring and interesting people who taught me so much and brought laughter and passion to my life again. I realised my own limitations and accepted them, pushed myself to do things I never thought possible, and overcame fears and anxieties that had held me back for years. I learnt the true value of running water, electricity, fresh food and dry shelter, but also learnt that you can live happily without these things. I realised that you can make friends with people from any background and of any age, and that judgements needs to be reserved and everyone should be given a chance. I slept on the floor in a national park, shared a room with 10 others and slept in a bunk bed for nearly 3 months, ate rice and beans for every meal in Nicaragua, travelled over 2000km in a land rover, saw spider monkeys in the jungle, walked through 20 rivers, played so much Werefolf and card games, went on an awesome road trip on public buses with Vera, lived on a dairy farm, learnt how awesome and fun young people are, cooked for 14 people and converted some to vegan food, learnt salsa and danced in a club, did a presentation to 25 people and survived a run in with the Nicaragua traffic cops. Overall it’s been an incredible year and I’m grateful for all the amazing moments.
Here’s to more adventure and discovery in 2016!
