The first community we stayed with were in Northern Nicaragua, about 45 miles from Esteli. After 3 days of being on the road it was a relief to feel a little settled, even though we were only staying for 2 nights. We were introduced to our host family and made up our beds, before having a bonfire with the group. Afterwards we headed back to our homestay and had the first of many rice, beans and plantain dishes of the trip.
It was an early 5am start after fuelling up, as we met the group and made our way to the worksite.
After we finished, I had my first experience of using a bucket shower and had the opportunity to sit in on a debrief of the project so far. I got the blog and photos we needed from the groups, and had a late night tea with the other project managers. I found I had so little time to photograph anything apart from on assignment, which was hugely frustrating as I would have loved to spend more time documenting everything.
The following day we left early and headed the next community.
