I landed in New York at 5am after flying in from San Jose. It was a shock to the system being hit with -3C and a strong wind chill after 3 months of humid and hot weather. Totally exhausted after the previous week of late nights and hardly any sleep as I was finishing up projects, I arrived early at my hotel around 8am, a full 7 hours ahead of my check-in time. Thankfully the lady at reception took pity on me and allowed me to go in early, I must have looked at state as she told me to go grab breakfast and get some sleep! I was so thankful for my warming bowl of oats, a hot shower and a soft bed to collapse into. After sleeping for several hours, I decided to brave the cold and see some of the city. After spending many months eating the same things, I hit up Le Pain Quotidien for the perfect lunch of avocado toast and a soy cappuccino. I walked around Bryant Park and saw the ice skating rink & christmas market, before doing some shopping and heading to Whole Foods for dinner.
The following day I had limited time so headed to Union Square to check out some of the markets there and do some more shopping, grab lunch and run back to the hotel just in time for check-out. I then managed to lug a suitcase and two backpacks through the subway and get to the airport. It was a great way to end my trip and do something for myself, I really love being in hotels by myself and doing some travelling alone as I feel independent and free to do what I want. After 3 months of having to report my every move, being alone felt rather strange but completely liberating. I was excited to get home though and reunite with my mum and my friends, and finally get some quality sleep. I managed to use my frequent flier miles and score an upper class seat which was a great way to end my trip.
