New York will always be my favourite city. There’s too much going on to ever get bored and inspiration is everywhere. I’ve been lucky enough to visit more than 10 times over the past 13 years and each time I never want to leave. Here are some of my favourite spots in Manhattan, which I return to time and again.
1. Watch the sun set over the Hudson River.
One of my favourite things to do on a hot summers day is to take an afternoon walk by the Hudson river and watch the sun set over the New Jersey skyline. Any spot on the Hudson River is great, but the ideal place is after walking the High Line and getting off at Gansevoort St and 13th Avenue park.
2. Go to Greenwich Village
Beautiful, especially in the summer, I always return to this borough of Manhattan. With shaded streets and stunning houses, it’s the perfect place to stroll around the neighbourhood and dream of moving here one day. Make sure to check out the classic Caffe Reggio while you’re in the area.
3. Walk The High Line
New York, NY 10011
The High Line is popular with tourists and locals alike, offering a fresh perspective in this buzzing city. A great place to escape from the traffic noise and take some awesome photographs of the city.
4. Stroll along Bleeker Street
WEST VILLAGE, NEW YORK, NY, USA
Colourful and with many restaurants, bars and boutique shops to explore. If you get off the High Line at Gansevoort St and walk through the West Village towards Soho it’s worth checking out this beautiful area.
5. Hang out in East Village
When I first came to New York 13 years ago as a wide-eyed 15 year old, this area immediately captured a piece of my soul. Back then CBGB’s was still around and St Marks Place was the best thing ever. I still love the atmosphere and browsing all the independent book shops and cafes.
6. Hit up the MET Museum
5th Ave, New York, NY 10028, United States
Browse the many stunning artworks in this varied museum and make sure you take a lift to the rooftop garden for some amazing views of the city.
7. Spend a day in Central Park
Take a stroll through Central Park, have a picnic or just watch the world go by. In such a busy city this huge park as an oasis of calm and tranquility.
8. Visit Brooklyn.
Spend a day walking around the beautiful neighbourhood of Park Slope, explore the hipster centric DUMBO, check out Brooklyn Flea market & Smorgasburg over the weekend and then walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.
9. People watch in Washington Square Park
Particularly fun after a long day walking around, taking some time to sit and watch people as they come and go through this bustling park is always a treat.
10. Browse the Union Square Greenmarket
Make sure to check out the Strand while you’re in the area for amazing book finds, after buying some local organic food and flowers.
