22 days of intensive yoga teacher training at the beautiful Sri Yoga Shala culminated in one final practice and our graduation ceremony. The experience was exhausting, exciting, scary, challenging and my anxiety was incredibly high the entire time as I was pushed far beyond any comfort zone. Sri Lanka is a complex country and the course was far more difficult that any of us expected, so I couldn’t have been more proud of myself for teaching a class and receiving my 200 hour certificate as a yoga teacher. Last year I had fully given up on my dream, I knew yoga meant more to me than anything and I was a dedicated practitioner and wanted to develop my practice and knowledge of the history and aims of yoga, but also knew that public speaking was never going to be an option for me. Then something happened, and I decided to just give it a try and see what happens. Somehow I managed to actually speak and find my voice which I thought the entire time would not be possible. So here’s a reminder to myself, and to anyone reading, that sometimes you are able to do far more than you realise and you are far stronger and more capable than you tell yourself. Namaste.
